Elementary educators have a powerful opportunity to nurture foundational global competencies in their students—such as perspective-taking, respectful curiosity, and an appreciation for cultures and communities beyond their own. This PLC is designed for K–4 teachers across disciplines who are interested in designing or refining curriculum that brings global perspectives, cultures, or issues into the classroom in developmentally appropriate ways.
Participants will:
- Design or revise a unit, project, or lesson sequence that integrates global themes and fosters age-appropriate global competencies
- Explore model practices, curated resources, and strategies for engaging students with the wider world—both close to home and farther afield
- Discuss developmentally grounded approaches to global learning that are meaningful, sustainable, and responsive to young learners
This PLC will support dialogue around questions such as:
- What global competencies and learning outcomes are appropriate for students in the early elementary years?
- What does it look like to meaningfully integrate global education into core academic subjects and interdisciplinary experiences at these grade levels?
- How can teachers thoughtfully and sustainably engage families and community partners in support of global learning?
Sessions will include presentations, resource-sharing, dialogue, modeling, and occasional guest speakers. Participants will also have time to share and receive feedback on their curriculum design in progress.
Space is limited to support rich conversation, peer collaboration, and strong cohort development.
