Network of Peer Educators Across 22 Countries
Schools can connect with 400+ schools around the world through the member school listserv and numerous events. Global directors and administrators regularly communicate about curricular initiatives, student collaborations, program planning and assessment, risk management, school and travel policies, partner school connections and a host of other needs. Member school educators share models and ask questions in a community of peers. See a list of current member schools here.
Live Data and Benchmarks on Emerging and Established Topics
The Institute for Global Learning collects data and makes it available to member schools in formats that are usable for decision making and highlight ways schools can benchmark in their peer group. The Istitute for Global Learning uses benchmarking data to generate tools, for example our Return to Travel Programming Self-Assessment Tool, that schools can use in decision making and program design.
Discounted Professional Learning, Evaluation, Student Programs, and Custom Services
Member schools gain access to expert services for faculty and administration in developing global competency-based curriculum and global program management through deeply discounted professional learning events, workshops, PLCs, micro and summer courses, and custom services such as facilitated strategic planning for global education or risk management training for overnight program leaders. Member schools can engage in an assessment process based on a set of standards related to a school’s global education vision, teaching and learning, programming, and risk management systems through our Evaluation or Endorsement initiative.
Collaborative and Model Student Programs
Ranging from virtual exchanges and dialogues on current global issues with groups of students and faculty from schools around the world to collaborative global experiential programs focused on global issues of significance.
Global Education Resources and Document Library
The Member School Resource Library provides access to sample policies and forms, curriculum and assessment examples, strategic plans, a plethora of useful information including model practices, research and tools, and an extensive and frequently updated collection of materials and resources shared by Institute for Global Learning member schools.
Custom Support and Coaching
Institute for Global Learning offers a variety of custom programming support to both member and non-member schools. These include risk management support, curriculum development, and strategic planning. Please fill out this interest form and a representative will be in touch regarding further details.

Membership Criteria
School membership is open to schools that meet at least 2 out of 4 of the following global education program requirements and are tax exempt under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3) or as approved by the Board of Directors:
- express a commitment to global education or global citizenship in their mission statement or other Board/District level guiding document;
- require students to take global education coursework, such as a world history or other social sciences course, a world literature course, a global studies course, a science course with a global focus; and/or require students to develop proficiency in a new language at the secondary school level (middle and/or high school);
- designate resources (as available) to global education (e.g. position, time, funding, communications, etc.);
- provide meaningful opportunities for student global engagement.
To maintain membership each year schools will also need to
- submit data and complete a survey on an annual basis;
- submit a flat annual school membership fee of $650 (renewals are billed in the following September);
- actively participate in the work of the organization by submitting data, attending conferences, regional meetings/events, trainings or other Institute for Global Learning events and engaging substantially through member resources.
